Sowing Cleome Seeds

Start cleome seeds  indoors  6-8 weeks before the last frost date. Or sow outdoors in late spring. Barely cover the seeds with soil. Full sun. Spacing 12".

Cleome hassleriana mix  includes shades of violet, white and rose-pink. The tall flowers bloom in late summer, adding height and grace to the garden. 

Cleome is a popular  heirloom  flower. Originally from the West Indies, it has been grown in English gardens since 1817.

Cleome 'Violet Queen'  has rich violet-purple flowers on tall stems. The vivid flowers attract  hummingbirds . It is wonderful in the  cottage garden .

Violet Queen cleome goes well with many other flowers. It's especially nice with  lavatera nicotiana  and  zinnia . Cleome makes a good  cut flower , as long as you carefully avoid the thorns along the stems.
