Asclepias tuberosa is a native perennial with bright orange flowers that bloom in mid summer, attracting  hummingbirds native bees  and  butterflies . It's also a host plant for Monarch, Queen, and Gray Hairstreak butterfly larvae.

Asclepias tuberosa is a long-lived,  drought-tolerant  perennial once it is established, but it doesn't like to be transplanted. It prefers well-drained soil in full sun. 

Also known as Butterfly Weed, Pleurisy Root and Butterfly Milkweed. Deer resistant. Hardy in zones 4-10.

Sowing Asclepias tuberosa Seeds

Start asclepias seeds indoors in late winter. Barely cover with soil, then  refrigerate  for 3 weeks. Or sow outdoors in the fall. Full sun.
