Borage

Borage (Borago officinalis)

125 seeds  $3.00

Borage is an annual herb that is mainly grown for its edible flowers. The star-shaped, bright blue flowers can be candied, used as a garnish or cake decoration, floated in drinks, or frozen inside ice cubes. Young leaves can be added to soups, salads and teas. The leaves and flowers have a mild, cucumber flavor.

Borage is recommended as a companion plant for tomatoes and strawberries. It attracts pollinators, increasing fruit yield. Sow the seeds in successive plantings to ensure a steady supply of flowers.

Borage attracts bees,  butterflies  and  beneficial insects . It's a good understory plant for  sunflowers , hiding their leggy stems and feeding more bees.

You may want to give borage a permanent spot in the garden, as it will self-sow and return year after year.
