Cosmos 'Dwarf Red' (Cosmos sulphureus)
160 seeds $3.25
Cosmos 'Dwarf Red' isn't exactly red, but it's a good scarlet-orange. The vibrant flowers appear on compact plants from mid summer to fall.
This is the best cosmos for attracting hummingbirds . I planted it near my hummingbird feeder, and I was surprised to see hummingbirds visiting the cosmos more than the feeder.
Try dwarf red cosmos with blue, white or yellow flowers like coreopsis , alyssum , and Cynoglossum amabile . The compact plant habit and profuse bloom make it a good choice for container gardening .
