Sowing Lupine Seeds

Scarify  lupine seeds with sandpaper, then soak overnight. Sow outdoors after the last frost date. Or start indoors 6-8 weeks early. Full sun to part shade. 

Lupine 'Russell Hybrids'  blooms in late spring to early summer with tall, dense spikes of flowers. This famous mix includes red, pink, blue, yellow and white flowers in solids and bicolors. The colorful flowers attract  hummingbirds . 

Lupine is a  host plant  for Frosted Elfin and Eastern Tailed-Blue butterflies. Deer resistant. Lupinus polyphyllus. Hardy in zones 4-8.
