Pole Bean Seeds

Growing beans on a trellis helps to conserve garden space. The seeds can be planted in early summer up until the first week of July. Easy to grow.

Sowing Pole Bean Seeds

Sow bean seeds outdoors 2 weeks after the last frost date, 1” deep and 3” apart. Provide a trellis. Full sun.

Mbombo bean  is a wonderful heirloom from Kenya, Africa. The 5" green pods have an old-fashioned bean flavor that we love. They quickly mature into dry beans in beautiful shades of green. Perfect for soups and stews. The semi-pole vines grow 5-6' tall and require some support. Very productive. Also known as Mbombo Green bean. It is named after the creator god of the African Kuba tribe.

Blue Lake Pole bean  is a highly productive variety that can cover a 6' trellis from top to bottom with 6" long beans that can be harvested daily for many weeks. It's a great choice for fresh eating, canning and freezing.

Cherokee Trail of Tears  produces 5" long, green beans. Not stringless, but very tasty. The shiny, black seeds are good for soup. Saved by Dr. John Wyche, whose Cherokee ancestors brought it with them on the Trail of Tears in 1838.
