Pole Bean Seeds

Growing beans on a trellis helps to conserve garden space. The seeds can be planted in early summer up until the first week of July. Easy to grow.

Sowing Pole Bean Seeds

Sow bean seeds outdoors 2 weeks after the last frost date, 1” deep and 3” apart. Provide a trellis. Full sun.

Bean Blauhilde

Bean 'Blauhilde' (60 days, snap bean)

Blauhilde  bean has dark purple, stringless pods that can grow up to 10" long. The rose-purple flowers add an extra ornamental touch.  The vigorous vines grow to 9' tall. Resistant to mosaic virus. Best for fresh eating. Brown seeds.

Blue Lake Pole bean  is a highly productive variety that can cover a 6' trellis from top to bottom with 6" long beans that can be harvested daily for many weeks. It's a great choice for fresh eating, canning and freezing.

Bean Cherokee Trail of Tears

Cherokee Trail of Tears  produces 5" long, green beans. Not stringless, but very tasty. The shiny, black seeds are good for soup. Saved by Dr. John Wyche, whose Cherokee ancestors brought it with them on the Trail of Tears in 1838.

Christmas Lima bean  has large seeds - about the size of a quarter - that are cream mottled with maroon. These delicious lima beans have a buttery flavor. Good for fresh eating, canning and freezing.

Legend has it that  Turkey Craw bean  was found in a wild turkey's craw. The 6" pods are stringless, and they are good for fresh eating, canning and freezing. The brown and tan-flecked seeds are good for soups. Best grown in the south.

Bean Mayflower

Mayflower bean  has unique, square-shaped seeds that are gray speckled with rose. It is good for soups and baked beans. Also prized for its delicious flavor as a green bean, in spite of the strings. Aka. Amish Knuttle bean. 8' vines.

Bean Rattlesnake

Bean 'Rattlesnake' (60-90 days, snap or dry bean)

Rattlesnake bean  has 7" long, dark green pods streaked with purple. The flavor is excellent. The light buff seeds are mottled with dark brown like a rattlesnake skin. The 10' vines are vigorous and drought tolerant. Good soup bean.

Bean 'Succotash' (95 days, dry bean)

Succotash bean  is a rare heirloom with dime-sized seeds that are blue-purple in color and shaped like a kernel of corn. It is thought to have been the original bean used to make succotash. Good for soups. 5-7' vines.
