Radish Seeds

Radishes are a cool season crop. They can sown in early spring as soon as the ground can be worked. Both the roots and greens have healing properties.

Sowing Radish Seeds

Sow radish seeds outdoors in early spring or fall. Barely cover the seeds with soil. Thin to 2" apart. Keep soil consistently moist. Full sun to part shade.

German Giant  is an extra large radish with a mild flavor and deep red color. The roots are typically 3" in diameter, but they can grow larger while still retaining their crispness. This is a favorite variety of many savvy home gardeners. Theresa Martz of  TendingMyGarden.com  introduced me to this fabulous heirloom radish. She says it's a real hit at dinner parties. German heirloom.

Radish 'Shunkyo'

Shunkyo radish  is our favorite variety for many reasons. The 5"-long roots have a sweet and mildly spicy flavor with a fine texture. It is slow to bolt, so there's no hurry to harvest. It can be sown throughout the season for a continuous supply because it doesn't mind the heat. The edible greens are prickle-free. This marvelous radish comes from Northern China. Aka Shunkyo Semi-Long.
